O' Christmas Tree....O' Christmas Tree

We had a fun-filled family activity last week of going out to find the "perfect Christmas tree". I have always told Ryon that I would rather have a Christmas tree (it has to be a noble fur) than presents....and there have been years when he has told me that the tree should be my present. He can't stand how much they cost!

I have been contemplating the idea of buying an artificial tree for the past few years, because it never fails that something goes wrong when we get the tree. Last year we forgot to have the guys at the Christmas tree lot give the tree a fresh cut so it would be sure to drink water. We had it in the house with water in the tree stand when I remembered that we "had to have a fresh cut"! We proceeded to dump the water from the stand into a bucket, (however, some ended up on the carpet) took the tree back outside, and Ryon gave the tree a fresh cut with a very dull saw. Seriously....I can be a bit of a fanatic about the tree, but that tree drank water up until we took it down in January. So, I think the fresh cut worked!

This year I was sure that I had remembered everything. We had the guys give our tree a fresh cut, and put the tree stand on for us. Then we hopped in the truck and headed for home with our "oh so perfect" Christmas tree. We got home, set the tree up in the living room, and as I started pouring the water in the tree stand I commented to Ryon, "I hope the guys at the lot made sure the tree stand was sealed so the water doesn't leak out." Hmmmm, why was I not surprised when water began leaking everywhere?

I yelled, Ryon came running, and we began the lovely task of dumping the water into a bucket, heading outside with the tree, putting it back in the bed of the truck so we could easily see the tree stand, and secured the seal so it wouldn't leak. We did all this while Hoyt joyfully ran around outside with wet socks (he had found his way through the tree water) and pulled Christmas lights off the front porch! Ryon swore he was going to get pneumonia. The end of this very long story is that we finally got the tree back in the house, tree stand firmly sealed, Hoyt in dry socks, with Ryon and I sitting on the couch with a sigh.

Perhaps we will have an artificial tree next year!!

Ditto on the noble fur!!! We broke down and bought a fake tree last. It wasn't cheap, but it's faux noble and pre-wired! It faked a lot of people out last year, it looks so real. I highly recommend it! We also bought a tree spinner, so it not only does it look real and we don't have to string the lights on, it spins as well. Maybe Ryon could give you the gift of faux noble next year :)

I love real Christmas trees. We have a real one too, its real artificial. Your tree looks fabulous. You do a great job decorating.

Its ok to be a little crazy about the Christmas tree because you only get to do it once a year. It looks great btw, and I can smell it just from the pictures! Real trees are way better than artificial ones, so keep the tradition as long as possible. The decorating looks FABULOUS!

Heather, you know for a fact there will NEVER be an artificial tree! There's nothing artificial about you, babe! Ryon should have known that when he married you. I'm glad you live in Nevada, because as active and mischevious as Hoyt sounds, he, Timmy and Mikey would get into a lot of trouble! :)

I love your tree! It is beautiful. My questions is this: is the bottom of your tree still decorated? Thanks to Emma I am constantly re-decorating the bottom 1/3 of the tree. I totally went to Walmart and bought a bunch of the shatterproof ornaments though, so at least she is not shattering them anymore.! Ha ha!!

Your tree looks great. Just think if you didnt have something go wrong each time it would not nearly be such an event. I just love the smell of the fresh trees I cant give it up.

We have a fakie! And it's super easy to put up, we take it out if the box, plop it up and plug in the lights, wa...lah! Although, I miss the smell of pine... Your tree looks great!

Your tree looks great! We broke down and did the artifical tree too! It seems to justify itself once you figure out the cost of a real tree for the next 10 Christmases. Hoyt sure is a cutie! Take care!

Ryon and Heather - Hoyt is such a cutie!!! We love him in his cowboy hat. Is he just a miniature of Ryon or what? Sorry Heather, there's sure to be some of you in there too. After all his name is Hoyt. You two do good work! Aren't little ones wonderful. Love, Stan and Mary Cook from Blackfoot

Dear Ryon and Heather,
What a super cutie little cowboy you have!!! He's a mini of Ryon! (Even though his name is Hoyt) :) Very pretty tree, but suggest the artificial ones because of the fire hazard (and the ease). Have a great Christmas. What a darling family you are! Love, Stan and Mary Cook from Blackfoot
