Since Hoyt is 5-years-old, he was eligible to play Kindergarten basketball for the Twin Falls rec. league. Ryon was the coach, and one of the other dads was the assistant. Ryon had all sorts of plans for his team, but I told him before the first practice to keep his expectations low and to remember that many of these boys would just need to learn how to dribble, pass and shoot. (After the first practice he said that coaching kindergarten basketball was like herding cats!!)
The season lasted two months and Hoyt's team did a fantastic job. No score was ever kept, but Hoyt and Ryon kept score (of course) and the boys won every game except one. It was amazing to see how much each of the boys improved over the course of the season; Hoyt was a great dribbler, shooter and his defense was superb! Hoyt looked forward to practices and games every week and was sad when the season was over. He's definitely looking forward to playing t-ball in the summer and soccer in the fall!
